If your like most people in the world, you’ve walked by a homeless person on the sidewalk and felt guilty about not dropping a couple coins into the cup etc. or what have you. The thing is, if we drop coins and one person’s belongings, we feel as though we have to do the same for everyone else. This means that we are reluctant to do anything at all, and tend to keep on walking. Does any of this sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone.
Luckily for us, there is a man in Australia who is developing a unique homeless shelter for those who need a place to sleep. This is called “sleepbus” and it is a relatively new idea in which an old city bus is renovated and modified to be a bunk cabin for up to 22 people at a time. Moreover, these buses also accommodate the paths of homeless people, as well as any personal belongings that they may have. There are two bathrooms on each bus, and there is a volunteer in the front of the bus that keeps watch over everyone during the night, and is available for help or questions.
Through crowdfunding, these buses have been developed. It is the hope of this innovative creator, that there will eventually be 30 buses of these in commission. No matter how you look at it, this is an honourable idea that makes the thought of helping out homeless person feel much more accessible.
