Majority of these garbage mounds are centred around Easter Island, and this poor island is getting completely pummelled with garbage every day, as pieces break off and careen onto the shores of this popular tourist attraction. As such, this is a great starting location to put Ehrmantraut’s invention to work. They may seem like a terrible way to attract business (“Look, the massive garbage piles, get out the camera, honey!”), but it is the only way we are going to be able to survive in the long run with all of the plastic garbage we’ve accumulated. As it is, with Ehrmantraut’s technology being implemented as soon as possible, it’s going to take over 1000 years to have an impact on our future. This is our fault, and we need to fix it as soon as possible. One of the highlights of this new and exciting technology is that it is going to have positive effects on the environment, but it is also going to be entirely out of sustainable material that is not going to add a single ounce of pollution to out already horribly polluted oceans. This is an ideal piece of technology that will do a lot for our environment. But wait, there’s more!
This device operates by sucking water into the filtering system of the machine by using gravity. This means that it will be strategically placed so that it gets as much plastic as possible as easily as possible. It will separate the plastic from the water by using rolling bars that will use ocean waves to separate the inanimate from the living. This ensures that fish will be saved, and boats will be able to pass by without a problem. The plastic that is recycled will be formed into any kind of resource (chairs, tables, etc) that can be used for those in need of furniture or building materials. Since this exciting and necessary invention is all about sustainability and giving back, the habitable parts of this platform will have gardens that will support the workers living on it, so none of the resources will have to come from the land.
As of right now, this kind of invention seems like something we can all dream about and find interesting, but the truth is that the creation of it is not that far away. The science exists to create it, all we have to do is spread the word that this kind of thing can exist, and start to learn about the details as more become available. We, as the human race, caused this “plastic problem” and we, has a collective species, need to fix the problem and create the solution ourselves. The key is to have a totally damage free solution and one that can run with as little energy wastage as possible. Though the final product may look and work a little differently as technology and ideas advance, Ehrmantraut’s invention is an excellent prototype to consider and use, as it already as all of the necessary requirements to do good in our wasteful world.
