THE LINE: Futuristic Urban Living Project With Horizontal Mega Skyscraper

THE LINE is a futuristic urban living project that contains a multi-dimensional aspect of the requirements of the future. It is called the civilizational revolution that puts humans first, providing an unprecedented urban living experience while preserving the surrounding nature. The extraordinary design of THE LINE will be 170 kilometers long and 500 meters above sea level, and 200 meters wide.

**UPDATE** (The plan was announced in 2021. Saudi Arabia has stated that it aims to complete a 5 km (3.1 mi) central segment by 2030, while completion of the full 170 km (110 mi) project has been pushed to 2045.)

100% renewable energy and 95% of the land will be preserved for nature

The project, currently under construction in Saudi Arabia in Neom, Tabuk, will have no roads, cars, or emissions. It will run on 100% renewable energy and 95% of the land will be preserved for nature. Unlike traditional cities, people’s health and well-being will be prioritized over transportation and infrastructure.

THE LINE is planned to accommodate 9 million people. It will be built on a footprint of just 34 square kilometers, which means a reduced infrastructure footprint, creating never-before-seen efficiencies in city functions.

The city will be zero-carbon, through the elimination of carbon-intensive infrastructures like cars and roads. It will operate on 100% renewable energy, including the operations of its industries. The integration of nature and open spaces throughout will serve an important role in purifying air quality.

UPDATE:

The plan was announced in 2021. Saudi Arabia has stated that it aims to complete a 5 km (3.1 mi) central segment by 2030, while completion of the full 170 km (110 mi) project has been pushed to 2045.

Designed to be built in stages, The Line was slated to be 170-kilometres long. However, according to latest reports, the project has been drastically scaled back (a claim refuted by the Saudi government). Only a 2.4-kilometres-long stretch is expected to finish by 2030. Meaning, that fewer than 300,000 people are expected to live there at the time (instead of the originally projected 1.5 million).
