War is a terrible thing. However, it can be during the war that we see some of the most beautiful aspects of the human spirit. The following article is an example of that.
We’ve all heard of the conflict between Palestine and Israel. Whatever the position you take on or, we all have to agree that innocent people on both sides are dying and are losing a lot.
This woman decided to express a desire for peace in a beautiful way; in a world where weapons are used every day and armed resistance is the status quo, this woman took a symbol of war- empty tear gas canisters – and turn them into a peaceful piece of art by creating horticultural artwork.
She uses the empty tear gas canisters, of which there are many in this war-torn region, as flower holders; like plant pot holders, but ones which both highlight and disguise their origin. This peaceful display is beautiful because it creates a complex web of moral statements, whilst being entirely peaceful.
This is beautiful despite the fact that it highlights the horrors of war – after all, tear gas means dispersing rioters or general conflict – and in a place where the war never seems to end, there are many of them. Yet by turning these weapons into something to hold a beautiful life form, the suggestion is that there is always something beautiful to be found, and there is an alternative to war.
