When we think about portraits, our minds usually jump right to the subject. After all, the person in front of the camera is the one staring back at us when we look at the image, right? It only makes sense to credit whatever concept is being conveyed in a photo to the subject.
But photographers know the truth. The fact of the matter is that much of what we see in an image is what the person taking the picture wants to convey. That’s why Canon decided to conduct an experiment. What happens when six photographers took portraits of one man speaks to the power of this amazing craft.
These artists somehow created six vastly different people out of one man. Canon’s project just goes to show how much influence photographers have over their subjects, and I can’t think of a more beautiful way to celebrate that.
