What may look like a massive dandelion to the untrained eye, this impressive sculpture is actually a magnificent rendering of the night sky from the northern hemisphere. Artist Wolf Buttress is the creator of the amazing sculpture, which has over 3,000 hand blown glass bowls that are individually fitted with a fibre optic light to replicate the starts in the sky, as seen by the naked eye. Named Lucent, which is Latin for ’to shine’, the sculpture is actually scientifically accurate, thanks to a collaboration with Buttress and astrophysicist Dr Daniel Bayliss. A reflective surface is used beneath the suspended exhibition to help mimic the southern hemisphere below, and to capture the complete vastness of the night sky and the stars that decorate it.
