The best part here is that there are no restrictions and no judgments. Everyone can act as they please. No one will baste them if they go out in the rain without a coat. No one will take their chocolate away in the evening. Or if they would like to run and sing at the same time, they are free to do as they please. Everyone here is regarded as a normal human being, with full rights of freedom and carrying it on with their lives in a normal manner, as much as possible.
The Hogeweyk village is rather close to Amsterdam, so it is not isolated from civilization. Besides, it has everything a modern citizen will need. A grocery store, restaurants, parks, a theater, even a bar where inhabitants can sit over for a drink.
The village was made out of government money and partially through donations. It became fully functional in 2009. Surprisingly, the costs of staying here are cheaper than to be hospitalized in a modern nursing center. The homes of the village are completely furnished and prepared to take in patients anytime. They are also decorated, making them look like a warm and welcoming home.
Nothing is restricted here if you want to cook then you can do so. If you want to wash clothes, feel free to do it, as these houses have everything they need. Of course, the patients are offered the support of staff destined to help them out with home maintenance. We might say they are on a very long and comfortable vacation, where no one cares about the illness they are suffering.
