Bride to be Brittany Perk was about to take the biggest steps of her life, as she prepared to walk down the aisle to marry her fiancé Jeremy. What she didn’t expect was the kind gesture that her father made, as he halted the ceremony before she made her way down the aisle to grab a hold of Brittany’s stepfather to share the father’s role of walking her down. It was a moment of sheer compassion and love, as father Todd Bachman put the feelings of his daughter front and centre by insisting that her stepdad Todd Cendrosky take part of the poignant moment. Cendrosky was overwhelmed by the kind act, tearing up as Todd led him to the aisle.
Bachman had no qualms about sharing the duty of giving away his daughter, as he admits Cendrosky is an important part of Brittany’s life. He explains “He has helped me raise my daughter and he should be walking with us,” Not long before the big day was due, Brittany had confined in her father that there was something bothering her leading up to wedding, and Bachman did not need any explanation of what was bothering her.
“I told her I already had something planned. She was so torn, and the last thing I wanted was for her to be torn.”
When the moment came, the wedding guests were happily surprised to see Bachman halt proceeding just to make sure that the man who helped raise his daughter was part of the big moment. Cendrosky was understandably touched by such a moving gesture, which not many men would be willing to do. “I always wanted to [walk a daughter] down the aisle, and when I married my beautiful wife, Candy, she gave me three daughters,” he says.
“I don’t have ‘stepdaughters’. . . I have daughters, and when Todd grabbed my hand. . . that was the best day of my life, and I wouldn’t change that day for the world. We have become family, and the children’s needs need to come first.”
The story went viral after the wedding photographer Delia Blarkburn uploaded the images to her Facebook account, with everyone applauding and commending Bachman for being so kind and considerate.
