D.E.L.T.A. Rescue founder dedicates his life to no-kill animal rescues
Leo Grillo, a 35-year-old actor had no idea that people were deliberately throwing their animals out in the deserts and forests of Southern California. He quickly learned how terribly wrong he was! He noticed there was no end to the number of animals being kicked out and found along roadsides.
From that point on, he made a promise to these defenseless animals that he would care for them and keep them safe. He started DELTA, which stands for Dedication & Everlasting Love To Animals. As of date, he has over 1,500 cats, dogs, and horses. DELTA is the largest no-kill care-for-life sanctuary in the entire country.
DELTA is located on 115 acres in Western Lost Angeles County with an annual budget of $8 million and 50 employees. His sanctuary has a state-of-the-art hospital, a full-time veterinarian, and its own fire department. DELTA Rescue is one of the first no-kill sanctuaries in the country.
To provide housing for his dogs, he came up with the idea of straw-baled houses. They are made of wood on the inside and stucco on the outside which allows these homes to last for a longer period of time. Each of the dog’s quarters comes with a pool!
“This sanctuary is my line in the sand. With the animals, it is fire” – L. Grillo
