One of the most popular engineers Britain has ever seen, Mervyn O’Gorman, was heading the Royal Aircraft Establishment located in Farnborough, during the times of World War I. He was a master of color photography along with a deep interest towards aeronautics.
He made use of Autochrome in 1913 to click fully colored photographs and made use of the single-plate color process for the first time.
Seen below are images of his daughter in the beach of Lulworth Cove, Dorset and can be seen sporting her bright red swimming costume. She can be seen in her long blonde hair and is wearing modern clothing in the images. Also seen in the photos are his wife Florence and second daughter. (National Media Museum)
