As time has progresses, we have been lucky enough to see opinions change with these times. Nothing could be more apparent than in the LGBT societies, who are more than ever being rightfully recognised and accepted. Nothing is more apparent of this than the right for same sex marriages, which is happening more than ever around the world –and judging by these snaps, it’s long overdue when you see the happiness on the faces of the brides and grooms.
As the month of June is officially recognised as LGBT month, and one that is being more celebrated as the years have passed (Obama has declared it every year since he took office). There was a massive struggle to gain this acceptance, and while some rights and hardships still remain today, it has definitely come leaps and bounds over the previous decades.
The Stonewall riots are a prime example of a changing in the public mind-set, after a police raid on a LGBT-friendly hotel catapulted the issues into the mainstream. It took place on June 28, 1969, and since then has helped to increase the rights for LGBT across the world. The year following the riot led to the first Pride march, which was organised by Brenda Howard or ‘The Mother of Pride’, and after that Pride month was officially born. It’s not impossible to think that without these events, we wouldn’t be looking at so many happy wedding snaps of same sex marriages.
