For anyone seeking a more unique place to stay on their next vacation, why not try one of the homes of perhaps the most famous drug lord of all time? You can do exactly that in Tulum, Mexico, where the former mansion of Pablo Escobar has opened as a luxury hotel.
As you might expect from the mansion of the man responsible for one of the biggest drug empires in modern history, the hotel is lavish and grandiose, with opulent furniture and art found throughout.
There’s also 180 metres of private beach right outside the property, with an on-site restaurant having been recently added. Should you not fancy a dip in the azure waters of the ocean, then there’s an indoor pool as well!
The property was found abandoned in 2003 almost ten years after the death of Pablo Escobar. It remained unused for that period, being restored to a five-star hotel that opened in 2015. It’s certainly received a modern renovation, with plenty of contemporary art and stunning décor throughout.
