An artist from Miami named Jason Seife paints his canvases to look like old-style Persian rugs. These are rug designs that have many complex patterns to them. Seife uses acrylic paint and ink to create these highly detailed paintings that have floral motifs and numerous symmetrical shapes and patterns to them.
These series of paintings by Seife is about showing appreciation and respect to the weavers of ancient times who had to weave these kinds of patterns together by hand. They represent the various styles and imagination that nomadic tribes had with their particular use of colors and patterns. Seife wants these paintings to give off a certain mood to the viewer which signify the emotions of the environment he was in while painting them.
If you want to see these textile paintings then visit the Robert Fontaine Gallery online, in-person or go to Seife’s Instagram page.
