Gould, a 51-year-old Marine veteran, learned to play the piano as a child, studying music at Spring Arbor University in Michigan. He also played the clarinet in the Marine Corps. After his wife passed away in 1998, he developed a substance abuse problem and has been on and off the streets for the last 6-7 years.
