Imagine you could get away with just 30 minutes of sleep every day? Think of all the things you could do in day. Giraffes have such a pleasure, s these long necked mammals require one of the shortest amount of sleep amongst mammals.
It was actually a common belief that giraffes never slept, that was until around the 1950s, which is strange considering that they are such an iconic animal. So it’s a rarity to see one actually sleeping, which makes these photographs even more impressive. That and of course the rather unusual nature of a giraffes build makes you wonder how easy it would be for one to sleep.
As nature would have it, evolution has shaped giraffes so they t require little sleep. This is due to them being natural prey for many carnivores that they share their homes with. SO it has become a necessity that they don’t need much sleep. They cannot get up with great ease, so they are most venerable when sleeping hence the fact they do it less.
In fact it’s not the only difference that giraffes have with other animals, as they naturally get their water from a different source too. Again, due to their long necks, a giraffe will struggle to get water from the ground, and so they get most of it from the plants that they eat. Talk about survival by any means!
Take a minute to soak in the image, as this is something that incredibly uncommon, so enjoy the snaps!
