When more than 100,000 people came together at Haight-Ashbury, a neighborhood in San Francisco, during the summer of 196, the social movement was dubbed the ‘Summer of Love’.
It was one of the focal points of the hippie counterculture movement of the time, with the city being home to a diverse number of people with strong ideas on politics, deep love of music, and a liking for drugs, sexual freedom, and expression.
Massive gatherings such as those in the city helped to spread the ideologies of the counterculture movement, bringing to a wider audience of people. It was certainly one of the most iconic and defining moments of the 60s and remains a celebrated moment in history.
