British soldiers and best friends Kevin Elliot and Barry Delaney were both preparing to embark on their tours to Afghanistan. Getting together one last time before they went their separate ways (unfortunately they weren’t going to be stationed together) they made a bet.
Elliot wanted to make a pact with his long-time friend that if either were killed in action, the other would have to don the ugliest dress they could find to his funeral. After some hesitation and a great deal of coaxing, Delaney accepted.
As each carried out his own tasks, they managed to stay close friends and even found ways to stay in contact. Although they weren’t able to meet up for drinks or to have a good laugh, they were still as close as they could be… and resting in the back of Delaney’s mind was the safety of his friend and the pact they had made.
So when Private Kevin Elliot lost his life, Delaney knew exactly what to do. With a heavy heart, he found the most hideous green dress (and matching neon pink socks to boot!) and he put it on proudly.
