You might think this is the beginning of a joke, but it’s not. In October, artist Yoann Bourgeois installed a rotating circular stairway along with a trampoline in the center. A group of dangers climbed up the stairway and then each fell in succession onto the trampoline then without effort, rebounded back on to the stairs!
The installation of the stairway and trampoline were carefully placed over the Foucault Pendulum of the Panthéon which was designed by French physicist Léon Foucault and provides a way for visitors to understand the Earth’s rotation. This pendulum has been recreated in numerous museums around the world but the one in Paris is the most famous since its inception in 1851. The co-producer of the Théâtre de la Ville said Bourgeois’s creation is an excellent replication of Earth’s gravity.
“La mécanique de l’Histoire” or The Mechanics of History is a performance that is a part of the Monuments En Movement series at the Panthéon.
