Everyone, at some time or another, has followed someone on Instagram who seems to spend their entire lives living on the beach. But, I bet you haven’t followed the Swim Reaper! He is found snapping summer pictures and waiting for mindless swimmers to make stupid mistakes in the water. This might sound horrible but actually, he is sending out a really important message to one and all.
The Swim Reaper is a public service announcement that is interactive. It has been launched by the New Zealand government to promote water safety. Statistics have shown that approximately 105 people have died from drowning every year and 56 lives have already been lost this year alone. The stunning fact, these deaths were completely preventable. The majority of deaths are young men who are swimming while being totally intoxicated.
If you are at the height of visiting beaches and spending your day swimming, just show some caution. Be responsible because the only way you will see The Swim Reaper is if you are on your phone!
