Ricochet is a gorgeous golden retriever who has become an internet sensation thanks to the amazing journey of her life, which her owner documented and uploaded online to share the story with the world. Born into a special school were dogs are trained to help people with disabilities, Ricochet received training from the moment she was born to help mould her into the ideal service dog. Sadly it proved to be the wrong direction for her, because as she aged it became apparent that she didn’t quite have the natural instincts to become a service dogs despite her amazing ability to learn the skills required. These trained dogs always need to be very disciplined and well-mannered to help serve someone with disabilities to the best of their abilities, but Ricochet had a love of chasing birds and being a little too inquisitive, making her unsuitable in comparison to other service dogs. She was more out-going, adventurous and an all-round excitable girl who just loved having fun – not exactly the best suited characteristics for a service dog unfortunately. Yet her owner refused to let the failure define Ricochet, who simply had a more interesting path ahead of her. It turns out that the skills she had learned could still be put to use helping people, just in a different manner to your traditional service dog.
