Fjordenhus by Olafur Eliasson and His Studio
When we talk about modern and minimalist design, the first country that comes to mind is without any doubt Denmark. There are numerous unique and modern buildings in the country. And Fjoerdenhus (or Fjord House) on Velje Fjord in one of them. This amazing building is a result of 12-years of work by Olafur Eliasson and his studio.
Actually, Fjordenhus is the first architectural work of Eliasson. He is a Danish-Icelandic installation artist. But with his studio, he completed the first architectural work. When we look at this castle-like building, it is clear that his first attempt was quite successful.
Modern Office Building by Olafur Eliasson
This brick structure will be used by the investment firm, Kirk Kapital. However, the firm will only use the upper floors. The ground floor of the building will be open to the public. Additionally, the installation of Eliasson will be displayed in the art gallery on the ground floor.
Fjordenhus is a cylindrical shape building standing on slender raised pillars. The main objective of Eliasson and his studio was to create a structure that suits the surrounding environment. So, nature, light, and season were considered in the design process. The building has a single entrance and exit point and connects Vejle Fjord with Vejle city center.
Glorious Brick Structure
While designing this office building, 15 different colors of bricks were used for the exterior. Selection for perfect brick colors was one of the greatest challenges. Yet, the combination of different colors like green, blue, and classical red bricks form a perfect harmony. 970.000 bricks were carefully combined, and the results of this hard work are great.
Additionally, the interior of the building was designed based on the purpose of each space. The colors were selected to match the function of that space. Also, the interior and exterior of the building are combined with harmony.
