Wat Ratchathammaram
Also known as Wat Sila Ngu (which means ”Snake Stone”), the Red Temple is in Koh Samui. Famous for its terracotta color, the walls of the temple are embellished with sculptures and bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Buddha’s life, warriors, and mythological creatures. A golden statue of Buddha is present inside the temple. Though not as famous as the other colorful temples in Thailand, it still attracts many tourists every year.
Wat Sri Panton (the Golden Temple)
Located in Nan, the Golden Temple’s foundation dates back to the 15th century. The seven-headed golden statue of Naga (mythical serpent) stands in front of the viharn (the assembly hall in temples). Naga is both the symbol and the guard of the temple. The interior of the temple has an impressive mural surrounding a Sitting Buddha statue and it depicts stories from Buddha’s life, mythological stories, and Nan legends.
Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew
With its radiant emerald-like exterior, this temple is known as The Temple of a Million Bottles. It was made of over 1.5 million empty beer bottles. The construction of the temple took two years. The monks completed the building in 1986 and continued to expand the site by constructing different buildings. The temple is located in the Khun Han district of the Sisaket province.
