Designed by SAOTA, Kloof 145 is a private residence that enjoys spectacular views over sandy beaches, boulder outcrops, and the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. Kloof 145 is situated on a very steep site with spectacular ocean and mountain views. The open-plan design maximizes connections with the surrounding landscape. Bold landscape elements are used to break the scale of the house and integrate it into the mountain.
‘The space is visually extended via the introduction of a courtyard towards the mountainside. And, it allows for ventilation, light and, again, an opportunity for planting.’
All levels of the house are connected via a sculptural timber staircase, like a folded ribbon that, appropriate to the home’s design narrative, gradually lightens in tone as it rises.
