She just kept popping out of the bushes to see if they were OK
For quite some time now, Summer has been a homeless dog living on the streets of Los Angeles. Most of the food came from members of the community, and she noticed one day that she was pregnant. After she had conceived, members of the community called for assistance, due to their desire for this new family not to have any struggles.
“She lived on the streets for a long time; she was fed by neighbors who found her a delight and who loved having her around. However, she also had babies in the bushes that needed help. The people reached out to us so that the babies and the mother could live in better and healthier conditions”, said Eldad Hagar, founder of Hope for Paws.
As soon as the rescue received a call about the mother and her babies on their emergency line they immediately set out to offer help. Summer was just a few hours out of labor, and she stayed quietly inn a bush, tending to her babies.
When the rescuers arrived, they were greeted by a happy Summer, who somehow seemed to know that these people were there to aid her and her family.
“As soon as we approached her, she was just so nice to us. She was so gentle”, said Hagar. “She allowed us to help her and her puppies; a trait which surprised us because most mothers are really protective of their puppies”
The rescuers began pulling the puppies put of the bush ne by ne so as to get them out and into safety as soon as possible. As they did that, Summer kept a protective eye on her puppies and made sure that they were in good hands.
It was quite obvious that Summer had the right type of care even though she was on the streets and this showed in the faith and trust that she showed in her rescuers. She knew they were there to help her, and she made sure that all six of her puppies were rescued.
Once the rescuers had taken care of all puppies, Summer came out of the bushes herself. She was glad to be with her children again, in a warm and comfortable basket, getting ready to start afresh.
The rescuers immediately took Summer and her puppies to a vet in order to get them checked out, and they found out that all was well with each of them. After thoroughly examining her, Hagar and his colleagues determined that Summer was most likely a Berger Picard; the same dg breed that was starred in the movie “Because of Winn-Dixie.”. Sumer is w too rare to be found living in the streets, but unfortunately, we can’t really know how she ended up there.
“At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter what breed she is”, said Hagar. “What matters is that the dog was cast out for a long time, was fed by locals in the community, and we’re here to make sure she and her babies are well taken care of”
Summer’s puppies were named Tanner, Diver, Surfer, Shelly, Sunny and Sandy by the rescuers. Immediately, Summer and all her puppies were placed into foster care, where they can play and grow until the puppies are old enough to be adopted. Summer and her puppies were quickly. Very soon, Summer and her puppies will be looking to start a new life and if the puppies are all chips off the od block, they’ll definitely make awesome and amazing parents.
If you’ll be interested in adopting Summer and her puppies (they’ll actually be available in six weeks’ time), feel free to contact A.R.T.N Paws Animal Rescue to make your enquiries.
