In December 2023 the Art Basel show was held in Miami Beach. Because of Art Basel, some of the most famous graffiti artists also came together and wanted to do something for the culture and art history. The Vitas Healthcare Center was an abandoned, 19-story building that was going to be demolished soon. Graffiti artists from all around the world wanted to use this building as a big canvas or a doodle pad. Over the weekend, each writer embellished the building with colorful and bold graffiti, giving it character and authenticity. The artists tagged the entire building with their signatures and marks.
Art Basel is a for-profit and privately owned international art fair, staged annually in Basel, Switzerland; Hong Kong, Miami, and Paris. Art Basel collaborates with the host city’s local institutions to help develop art programs and display art. It is considered a pinnacle event for the art world and attracts attention from around the world. The Basel gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner, and Balz Hilt started the Art Basel show in the 1970s and since then it has grown. It debuted in Miami Beach in 2002.
The building is still going to be demolished however the current state of it was overall well-received and attracted attention.
