Canadian artist Camille Allen has a rather unusual hobby and an impressive skill yo match it. She handcrafts miniature clay sculptures of newborn babies that can fit inside the palm of your hand.
It’s a skill the 35-year old artist learned from her grandmother-in-law, who was also making baby sculptures, except those, were life-size. But when Camille started, she didn’t have enough clay for that, so she made miniature versions: “When I held the first tiny baby sculpture in my hand I fell in love with it. I have been making the miniature babies ever since.”
“I love creating something that didn’t exist before,” said Camille. “My favorite part is sculpting their little faces from basically a blank ball of clay.”
