Palangan, or Patagan, is one of the several stepped villages in the mountainous region of Hawraman in the Kurdistan province of Iran. The adobe houses of Palangan village cascade over the slopes of the Zagros Mountains, and the Tangivar River divides the settlement into two. Due to their placements, one house’s roof becomes the front yard of another house.
Palangan village is one of the best examples of stepped architecture in the mountainous region of Hawraman.
There are also the remains of ancient fire temples, bridges, and forts around the village. Most of these remains are encompassed by the Palangan Castle, located at the point where the Tangivar River joins the Sirvan River. This castle and 7 other forts date from the Medes Era ruled between c. 678 BC and c. 549 BC.
