David LaChapelle is one of the great contemporary photographers, known for his work in both fine art and commercial photography, with many of his images carrying strong social messages too.
He rose to fame in the 1980s after showcasing some of his work in various galleries in New York City, leading to Andy Warhol discovering the young budding photographer and offering him a job at Interview Magazine.
His work in Interview Magazine involved photographing many of the top celebrities of the time and helped to improve his reputation as one of the emerging talents in the world of photography. Before long he was photographing editorials for some of the most prominent publications in the world and would go on to produce some of the most iconic and memorable adverting campaigns of the time.
His remarkable photographs have made their way onto esteemed publications such as French Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone to name a few, with many of the world’s most famous names featured in his shoots.
Names such as Madonna, Eminem, Tupac, Andy Warhol, Elizabeth Taylor, and Leonardo DiCaprio are just a few examples of the high profile celebrities he has photographed over the years, and Leo’s, in particular, are quite interesting.
LaChapelle photographed a much younger DiCaprio back in 1995, and looking back on them they certainly stand out for their… uniqueness.
We are not sure how much Leo will appreciate seeing these nowadays, and LaChapelle even commented on the famous photos in an interview with Time Magazine, saying “I think Leo DiCaprio is still pissed off about posing with those bananas”
