The Shazdeh Garden was built by the order of Mohammad Hassan Khan Sardar Irvani, the ruler of Kerman at the time. During his reign, he ordered the construction of a beautiful garden 2 km from Mahan, Kerman, in the heart of the foothills of the Tigran Mountains and along the Silk Road, but he did not have time to see the completion of this garden. After his death, this beautiful half-built building was abandoned. It is even said that when the news of the death of Sardar Mohammad Hassan Khan Irvani was reported to the ruler of Mahan at that time; the building, which is completing the main entrance of the building, hits the gypsum trough with all its might against the wall and escapes from there.

The name of the garden means the ‘prince’s garden’. It is one of the national monuments of Iran that has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2011. The lush green of the trees and bushes impresses all visitors who do not expect to find such a structure in a deserted area.
The garden is 5.5 hectares with a rectangular shape and a wall around it. It consists of an entrance structure and gate at the lower end and a two-floor residential structure at the upper end. The distance between these two is ornamented with water fountains that are engined by the natural incline of the land. The garden is a fine example of Persian gardens that take advantage of suitable natural climate.
