Animal lovers and those fighting for animal rights will rejoice over the recent announced by San Diego SeaWorld that it will no longer put on the live orca shows starting in the new year. Ever since a “damaging” documentary, “Blackfish” came to the media’s attention, there have been many that are advocating for the rights of orca whales, insisting that living in captivity is cruel and goes against what they are made to do in the wild. While this news is not perfect – the orcas will continue to live in captivity after all – this could be the start of something marvellous, depending on how you want to look at it. With all of the outrage going on involving animal rights, it seems as though this is just one small step in the journey that many animal related businesses are going to have to take. Only the future will tell. For the time being, it’s reassuring to know that the companies are willing to listen to the public. (h/t: iflscience)
