Books are the original home of fairy tales, not movies, so it is not a surprise that a new Romanian bookstore appears to be straight out of a fairy tale. The historic-looking entrance to this branch of Carturesti Carusel is grand but once you enter you are greeted by high pillars with innate carvings that rise four floors high.
The fifth floor without columns can be seen from the right angles. Spiral staircases and bright lights help to make this place stand out among bookstores as the home to fairy tales. Instead of the typical Starbucks or bookstore café, this branch of Carturesci features a tea shop, to help polish off the fancy appearance.
Not only does this bookstore appear to be out of a fairy tale, but it also has a rich history. This bookstore used to be home to the Chrissovelloni bank then a men’s clothing store and during the Soviet years was home to yet another store. Jean Chrissovelloni restored the building back to its glory recently and it became home to the current bookstore. If you are in the area this is a must-see, it built up a huge hype before even opening and is one of the only places in recent history to live up to its hype.
