Basketball Court Hidden Inside A Cave In China’s Guizhou

A basketball court has been built inside a natural cave in southwestern China’s Xinchun Village.

The basketball court measures 28 meters in length, with dimensions of 15 meters in width and length, occupying a total area of 1,000 square meters. Alongside the entrance, there are tiered seats capable of accommodating up to 1,000 spectators. This facility serves not only as a venue for basketball practice but also as the primary stage for the town’s most significant festivals and events.

The decision to construct the court inside a cave arises from both practical and cultural considerations. The residents of Xinchun have a deep passion for basketball, yet the mountainous terrain and limited flat land pose challenges for regular sports activities

Moreover, the weather in Guizhou is unpredictable, characterized by frequent rain and infrequent stretches of continuous sunshine lasting more than three days. To preserve valuable agricultural land and meet the community’s desire for year-round basketball, this innovative cave location was chosen, providing a functional and sheltered space for leisure and local cultural events.
