We all have those crappy drawings hidden away in a file folder somewhere in the deep, dark corners of our filing cabinets. They are ones we tend not to think about or even care about until years and years later when we struggle to make room for our new junk. Telmo Pieper, however, took those drawings back out and, using photoshop, worked hard to create realistic versions of those kiddy photos. He works hard to ensure that he stayed close to the original drawing, working only at the shading, coloring and other details that would give it semblance to the actual object he had been drawing.
One of the best one is the car, completed at the age of four in the typical sloppy style, a rectangle with awkward windows and four wheels, haphazardly drawn on. The photoshopped created is amazing, bringing many of us back into our childlike states of mind as we think about our own failed attempts at creating a piece like Pieper has to bring our childhood to life. It is inspiring to see what art can do and that even the “crappiest” pieces can be made into masterpieces as he has shared with us.
Take a look through and see how many remind you of those happy, fun moments with the chalk, pencil crayons and smelly markers. Maybe you’ll get the inspiration to go search through your filing cabinet, too…
