Two Swedish architects named Bigert & Bergstrom showcased their newest creation… the Solar Egg. This 16-foot tall egg-shaped structure is actually a sauna which burns wood to create heat. It can fit up to 8 people inside at one time. A developer named Riksbyggen is leading an urban redevelopment group in the Swedish city of Kiruna. This egg project is associated with the effort and the newly created Solar Egg is there for its city people to see and use.
On the inside of the Solar Egg, you will find most of it is made of pine wood. But on the outside, there are gold-plated steel panels that act as mirrors and are very reflective of its surroundings. In the middle of the sauna room, there is a heart-shaped stove made out of iron. This is where the heat is generated for the sauna.
The great part about the Solar Egg is that it can actually be mobilized. In other words, you can easily disassemble the Solar Egg into 69 different pieces and take them somewhere else for reassembly. Perhaps this might start a trend of mobile sauna eggs being built in the near future.
