Italian Architect Designs Tree-Style Apartment Complex

An Italian architect named Luciano Pia has designed a unique apartment complex in Turin, Italy which integrates nature and people beautifully. This 5-story urban setting contains a mixture of steel girders and lush trees in order to create an apartment complex that resembles a series of treehouses. All this is right on the corner of an urban neighborhood which is something you’d never expect to see there.

Pia designed the building in a way to sustain natural integration. The asymmetrical terraces enable the potted trees of the complex to actually sprout randomly from it. There is also a courtyard with a pond that lets residents relax outside during the warmer months. The complex contains 150 trees that shed their leaves in the wintertime. This provides more light into the building when it gets darker outside. Overall, the trees of the building help clean the air of the city and reduces the urban sounds of the outside so residents don’t have to hear them.

The apartment complex was finished in 2012. The address of the complex is Via Chabrera 25, Turin, Italy.
