Travis Durden (a pseudonym used in order to remain anonymous) is an artist that has created the perfect mashup of ancient art and pop culture by combing Ancient Greek sculptures with famous Star Wars characters, with fantastic results!
YODEA ANGEL; Greek art: Cupid Playing with a Butterfly | Star Wars: Yoda
To begin his project, Durden visited the iconic Louvre Museum in Paris and captured photographs of the breath-taking Ancient Greek sculptures on display. These would serve as inspiration for each piece, leading the artist to collaborate with a 3D modeler to get a real redesign of the statues’ heads the showcase characters such as Darth Vader and Yoda.
For the finishing touches, he worked together with a re-toucher that helped fit the new faces seamlessly onto their new bodies. The process required the creation of a texture that resembles fake marble.
The finished products are fantastic, looking very much like the real thing! You can be forgiven thinking that these are ancient statues that were masterfully carved from marble centuries ago.
