Popular Painted Ladies of San Francisco refers to the row of stunning, colorful and eye catching houses situated at the 710 to 720 Streiner Street. The actual location of these colorful houses is situated across from the popular Alamo Square Park in the beautiful city of San Francisco. These houses were built between 1892 and 1896.
Style and overall construction of these Victorian style houses were built during San Francisco’s great economic growth that happened in the end of nineteenth century. Most of these houses were destroyed and lost because of earthquakes devastations in 1906. In the city’s neighborhood, there were many establishments particularly in the southern and western part of the city that survived from the earthquake.
It greatly shows that these painted ladies houses in San Francisco survived after great natural disasters and after all these years, these Victorian style houses still exist.
As of now, Painted Ladies of San Francisco becomes city’s latest attraction. There are now many people who want to see this famous and stunning attraction of the city. There are many media platforms that featured Painted Ladies of San Francisco. In fact, Painted Ladies of San Francisco appeared in different advertisements, movies and programs. These Victorian style houses also appeared in almost 70 movies.
They started calling these Victorian style houses as ‘’Painted Ladies’’ because of Elizabeth Pomada. She was the one who first used this term. In 1978, Michale Larsen also used this term for his book. Since them, they used ‘’Painted Ladies’’ as their way to describe colorful group of items. They also use this term to describe stunning Victorian houses in different cities such as in New Jersey, city of Cape May, Ohio, The Old West End in Toledo, Columbia-Tusculum in Cincinnati, New Orleans areas, San Francisco and many more.
