Shell House: A Mussel-Shaped Modern Family Recreation Center

Shell House, designed by architecture & interior design firm K&B Partners led by Kovtun Yuri and Burakov Egor, is a modern family recreation center planned to be built near the sea in Koblevo, Mykolaiv region, Ukraine. Architect’s statement: Modern family recreation center, located near the sea. The recreation center is designed for both small families (2 people) and large families (4 people or more). The concept of housing is borrowed from the mussel, a very common mollusk in the area. The house is made mainly of wood, both in the basis of the structure and in the decoration. The unusual shape and materials of the building will not leave you indifferent. Completion of construction is planned for the spring of 2023.

Shell House

The mussel-shaped home is primarily built from wood – including the structure, and the outer decorative shell. Although situated on a single site, it serves as a home for multiple families. It is targeted toward small families of two people, or larger families of four or more people. If you look closely at the intriguing shape of the structure, you’ll notice that it mimics the shell of a bivalve mollusk specifically. Two massive shells are connected via a hinge, giving the modern recreation center a completely innovative and unique exterior.

Shell House

Multiple Shell Houses are placed next to each other to create homes for different families. We, presume, each family will get their own living unit to reside in. A view from the top showcases mussel-inspired cottages that are almost smushed together – creating not only an interesting visual but architectural structures that somehow perfectly merge with their surroundings.
