This is the main reason why they need help as they are becoming extinct—and the solution came in a different way entirely…

When they observed that the cheetahs need some assistance, for several years the zoo keepers have been assigning emotional support dogs to them. “It’s a love story of one species aiding the survival of the other,” Said Grisham, vice president of animal collection at St. Louis Zoo, and coordinator for species survival plan for cheetahs in North America.

Because cheetahs are shy creature a dominant dog helps a lot, and that can’t be bred out of them,” explained by Janet Rose-Hinostroza who is the animal training supervisor at San Diego Zoo Safari Park. When they are paired together (cheetahs and dogs), the cheetahs learn to model their behavior by looking to the dog for cues. It’s about them getting used to the calm, happy vibe from the dog”—and that boost their confidence and they will be willing to get it on.
