In Japan, The Massive Rice-Straw Animals Of The Wara Art Matsuri

The Wara Art Festival recently started in the September-October rice season in the northern part of Japan. People get together to re-purpose the leftover rice straw in unbelievably creative ways.

Wara Art Festival in Japan has been taking place in Niigata City since 2008; it started in this city as a result of the collaboration between Musashino Art University and the city’s tourism division. The students of Musashino team up and fill the field of Niigata with giant sculptures of an animal which are made of rice straws bounded together and this is what they have been doing every year since the inception of the festival.
