Thurston Hopkins – Cats of London in the 1950s

Thurston Hopkins is a famous photojournalist from Great Britain. Back in the 1950s, he was doing reporting work for the Picture Post. His pictures were always known for capturing the true spirit of the people, places and things in his pictures.

Cats of London in the 1950s

One of his first articles entitled “Cats of London” was published on February 1951. The article featured pictures of various cats in London from that time period. You can see these black and white pictures for yourself. There are pictures with cats walking the streets, living in the scraps of bomb sites, and staring at the photographer.

When you look at these cats for yourself, you can see that they are the only thing that hasn’t changed in the last 60 years. Everything else like the people and the background settings looks completely different now.
