The Battle Stalingrad is widely regarded as one of the most important of World War II. Battling for control of the Russian city of Stalingrad, the conflict was one of the bloodiest in history, with close to two million military and civilian casualties between Allied and Nazis forces.
As the strategic positioning of Stalingrad was so important to both sides, each army through their entire might into the battle, with Nazis beginning with air raids before moving into deadly close quarter battles.
Russian forces proved to be the victor in the battle, defeating over 250,000 Wehrmacht, halting the advance of Nazi forces into the Soviet Union. The victory is widely considered a turning point of the war for the Allies.
