This small village was changed unexpectedly when it was visited by a type of guests that they were not expecting; one hundred and fifty Street artists that came from all over the world-representing more than thirty countries in total. This small village, Er-Riadh, is in Tunisia and is far off the beaten track.
The artists were there to take part in a massive exhibition of street art which took place on the walls of the village-with over one hundred and fifty pieces of art adorning the town.
The founder of the art organization that made this possible, Mehdi Ben Cheikh of the French Galerie Itinerrance, got permission from the government and local authorities before doing so. He told the New York Times, “Muslims, Christians, and Jews have lived here in peace for the last 2,000 years or so… I’m not here to aggravate anyone but to consolidate this aspect, which I find beautiful, and together with the natural beauty of the village, provides the artists with a unique canvas.”
