Most of us can remember an amazing day at the beach where we created some truly epic sand castles. Even the most extravagant castles couldn’t match up to one artist’s creations using nothing but sand – they are nothing short of masterful! Carl Jara takes a different approach to his sandcastle, in the sense there is no castle to speak of (although we would love to see what type of castle he could sculpt!). There are some rather abstract designs in his work, but the attention to detail and sheer creativity required to pull of such work is more than impressive. Carl is a sculptor and woodworker from Cleveland, Ohio, and he aims to build sand-sculptors like nothing anyone has ever seen before, hence his somewhat unique designs. His work is so smooth and refined that you almost forget that what you’re looking at is sand, instead of wood or marble.
Jara studied fine art in college, but soon realized that design was not his strong suit. Instead, he wanted to create with his hands, and sand is the perfect medium.
