“I will never give up on him. Because love is selfless, and I love him more than life itself.”
This is the story of a couple who were looking forward to the birth of their first child and the unforeseen challenges that were to lie ahead.
In order to cope with his very busy workload, Austin picked up a habit that he could never have seen landing him in the hospital. His wife, Brianna could never have imagined going to sleep one night and her entire world was going to explode all around her.
She set off on a 2-hour drive to the hospital but still had no idea what had happened. She found out that her husband had experienced a brain hemorrhage! The doctors were able to rule out drugs. The bad news, her husband had gotten into the habit of consuming energy drinks in excess due to his workload.
After 5 hours of surgery, his parents and wife were allowed to go in and see him. They could hardly recognize him with all the tubes running in and out of him and machines everywhere. Everyone focused on her husband but all she saw was the life draining out of his mother and his father crying uncontrollably.
She never felt so helpless, lost, and swimming in grief.
The following day he was scheduled for another brain surgery that was followed by seizures and strokes that no one was prepared for. After many surgeries, her husband was left with a hole in the front of his skull.
She would sit on his bed in the hospital and pray that he would be alright. They returned home after spending two weeks in the hospital and not knowing if he would be coming home or not. Time does not wait and it was time for her to deliver their baby.
She was in so much pain and stress dealing with her husband’s surgeries and now she just had to face the fact that she would be bringing their child into the world without him being close by.
If you do not believe in miracles, you should! Although childbirth is a miracle, there are many other miracles that no one can ever explain. As she gave birth to their son, her husband woke up from his coma! With her son only a week old, she needed to get back to the hospital and left him with her in-laws.
She needed to let her husband and let him know they had a son and how much both of them needed him to get well. Many weeks went by and more operations and then, just a little over 2 months later, he met his son! That was the first day that joy returned to her heart.
There was a good deal of time that went by before he would be allowed to come home. Their lives are far from normal with hospital visits and doctor calls. This brave woman now has a life that includes caring for her permanently disabled husband. She has accepted her role and has the strength to carry on.
This story is truly a testimonial of true love, courage, and self-sacrifice. She performs all his physical, speech, and occupational therapies. She prepares the meals and feeds him, helps him learn how to walk, and caring for his personal hygiene.
She and her family are fighting every day to help in his recovery and they strongly believe that one day that will happen.
